Akaso Company released the new action camera in 2020. It is called Akaso Brave 6 Plus. About 8 months ago, I have already tested the Akaso V50 Elite action camera, and I really liked it.
The new action camera is about $20 cheaper than the previous one. However, the main features look the same.
Both of them have 4K video resolution, 20MP photo resolution, electronic image stabilization, touch screen, voice control, waterproof case, Wi-Fi support, and other features.
OK, I suggest to start the review with unboxing, and then look at the design, mobile application, photo, and video footage.
Unboxing
The new action camera from Akaso comes in this white box.
You can see the image of the action camera and model name on the front side. On the back, there is a list of main features.
Opening the box, you will find a greeting message from Akaso Company. As you can see, Tommy Caldwell is the ambassador of Akaso. This is a popular American rock climber.
The action camera in a waterproof case is located on the right side, while accessories are on the left.
Like the previous Akaso action cameras, the new Brave 6 Plus has many accessories. They come in these three pouches.
You know, I don’t use most of these accessories because I don’t ride a bike or do active sports. However, if you do that, they are really useful for you.
I found useful for me this remote control, two batteries, waterproof case and USB cable. By the way, I want to draw your attention to this charger. It can charge two batteries at once. Very good.
Design
Talking about the design of Akaso Brave 6 Plus, the new action camera looks different from the previous ones. First, the right and left side faces are blue. They contrast with the main black body. I like that.
On the left side, there is a battery compartment and memory card slot.
On the right, we can see the speaker, USB Type-C port, and micro HDMI port.
On the front, there is the name of the action camera, a small microphone hole, lens, and power button with an LED circle.
On the back, there is a touch screen and company logo.
The recording button is on the top. These two buttons are used to zoom in up to 8 times.
The camera does not have a tripod thread, but you can use a protective backdoor that comes in the package.
By the way, I forgot to tell you about the dimensions. The size of Akaso Brave 6 Plus is 60 by 40 by 25 cm. The weight is about 82 grams.
I think that’s all about the design of the action camera. The build quality is pretty good for a budget camera, and I like these blue side faces.
Now let’s look at the screen and settings menu.
Settings menu
As I already said, the display is touch-sensitive. So, you can tap on the screen, but also you can use physical buttons on the top so navigate in the settings menu. It is very useful when you use a waterproof case underwater.
On the main screen, you can see remaining time to shoot video, microSD card, battery level, video/photo mode, resolution, and settings menu.
Swipe up to open the main menu. Here we can choose video mode, photo mode, as well as to enter video settings, photo settings, and camera settings.
In the video settings menu, you can choose the video mode, such as normal, driving, time-lapse, slow motion, and others.
Then, you can change the video resolution from 720p 60fps to 4K 30FPS. This action camera doesn’t not support 60FPS at 4K resolution.
Also, it is better to enable image stabilization.
In general, Akaso Brave 6 Plus has many video settings.
In the photo settings menu, you can also choose photo mode, resolution, shutter interval, etc.
The camera settings has the following options: upside down, filter, scene mode, voice control, diving mode, indicator light, screen saver, auto-power off, date, time, language, and so on.
I like Akaso action cameras because they have many settings, so you can set up the camera, as you want.
Application
Akaso Brave 6 Plus action camera has built-in Wi-Fi, so you can connect it to the smartphone. First, you need to download the app Akaso Go application. It is available on Android and iOS devices.
Then, press and hold this button to enable Wi-Fi on the camera.
Go to Wi-Fi settings on the smartphone, and select the device.
Now, you can open the Akaso Go application.
On the main screen, there are two options: record video and take photos. There is also a gallery icon in the bottom left corner.
The settings menu has about the same options as on the camera itself. To be honest, it is more comfortable for me to set up the camera in the app than on the camera.
Finally, let’s look at the real videos and photos. I will not comment on them so you can evaluate the quality and stabilization yourself.
Real Videos and Photos
You can watch sample videos and photos taken on Akaso Brave 6 Plus action camera in the video on our YouTube channel. The timecode is 04:40.
Conclusion
In general, I like the image quality of the Akaso Brave 6 Plus action camera. The video is high-detailed and bright. The stabilization is also good. However, it is only in the daytime.
In low light conditions, the image quality drops dramatically. The video is quite grainy.
In defense of Akaso Brave 6 Plus, it is the problem of any budget action camera.
You know, there are no new action cameras in 2020, and Brave 6 Plus is one of the few good cameras of this year. You should pay attention to it if you are looking for a budget action camera.
